Most people have a dream of someday winning the lottery. But a majority of those people, including myself even, do not play the lottery. Why do why have such unattainable dreams? If it is really a dream of ours then why not take the measures to attain them, for example start buying scratch tickets or playing the lottery. Or if you hope to be a famous actor than join a local theatre club or take voice lessons to be that famous singer. Do you really want to be on stage and touring the word and be surrounded by superficial people, or do you just like the idea of being famous, and not having to put in many hours for a small weekly paycheck? Perhaps we just enjoy dreaming of a better life, but dreaming of a better life is to say that you aren't fully enjoying your current life. And if life is only a series of moments strung together, shouldn't we enjoy each moment. we have? I have a friend whole recently came down with double pneumonia, ended up in a coma for weeks and flatlined twice. Miraculously he is on his way to recovery, he has been given a second chance at life, is he now going to dream of a happier future... no.. he is most likely appreciating life in general and these beautiful moments that pass quickly. In this economy one cannot help but have financial burden either in the forefront or back of their mind. But we cannot let it debilitate our happiness and our enjoyment of our precious moments. Some people have a resolution to be the best person than can be, but is that just a way to put more pressure on oneself in a society full of perfectionist pressures?
Everyone likes the idea of fame, but ask yourself what is is about fame that is of interest to you and how can you find that specific type of fame in your genre of interest that will make for a happy life. If you like the idea of jetsetting to secluded islands, why not just move to an island now. If you like the paparazzi on you, why not volunteer as a model at a photography school and find out if you really like that many cameras on you inspecting you and taking note of your flaws. Perhaps the best you can be is to be someone that can stop to smell the flowers, not someone striving for there ideals and a perfect lottery winning life. Haven't we all watched enough movies to realize that money doesn't bring happiness. That finding happiness from within is much more important. That appreciating loved ones and being their for them is what makes a happy lifetime. Dreaming is a wonderful thing, its a way of figuring out your true goals. But a dream is just a dream that will pass once you wake up, unless you start to take those little steps each day to make it a reality.
New Year's Resolution: To not want anything; to appreciate what I have. And to work hard striving for my dreams but to appreciate the process as much as the dream itself.
